This morning:

Me: Dad, you mind if I go sit out in the sun, or do you have anything for me to do?
Dad: Nothing I can think of. You'd better go tan. Andrew, can you say "pasty?"
Andrew: Pasty!
Angela: Pasty!
Me: Jerkfaces.

In other news, I have a JOB. Yessss! I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing yet...but I'm going to be helping out at one of our family friend's offices. He's an oral surgeon- I might even get to be a surgery assistant. So yeah, here's little English major me, observing surgeries. Hmm. Apparently I would just have to sit there and hold the person's head and make sure he or she was breathing and that everything was going okay. Psshhht. Piece of CAKE. $10/hr to make sure people don't, like, die. I can TOTALLY do this.

And I'm insanely glad this worked out...because I noticed that Del Taco was hiring. And I entertained the idea...of, you know...pulling a Kevin Spacey/American Beauty type thing where you find some no-responsibility job and work in fast food and achieve peace on some different plane of existence. But, yeah. Kevin Spacey got shot in that movie. So I'm gonna do the whole surgery thing, if that's alright with you guys.

Andrew: [Importantly, with a conspiratorial air] Katherine, I need to tell you something.
Me: Really? What is it?
Andrew: Knock, knock.
Me: Who's there?
Andrew: Apple.
Me: Apple who?
Andrew: Apple and banana SPLIT!
Me: [chuckling] That's not funny, Andrew.
Andrew: YOU'RE not funny, DORK. [exit, stage left]

This little exchange, with very little variation, happens every day. Sometimes twice. It's been happening for more than a year, only when I'm not home it happens over the phone. And I can't wait until this kid grows up. Because in thirty years, when I am an old, decrepit 52 and he is a young whippersnapper at 34, I'm going to remind him of these things. Probably in front of his own children.

They, all four of my siblings, that is, should look forward to this similar fate...

And it IS funny, really.

So here I am, back in Palmdale. Not quite bored yet, but I could see myself getting there soon. I think this has been the only time that I have ever moved back into my family's house since I started school...I'm not living out of a bag, we actually put my dresser upstairs in the room I'm sharing with my (6 year old) sister. I don't think it's sunk in yet that I'm not going to pack everything back up in a week and move back to my old apartment in Berkeley. :::sigh::: I'm apprehensive about the whole job thing, too. I'm not sure if the office job I had sort of lined up is going to work anymore, and that might suck. Because my whole idea there was to move home so that I could make money...:::sigh::: We'll see.

In other news, I joined the gym here! And I actually got my Mom to join with me...which was really surprising, but good. We take two treadmills next to each other and she walks while I run. And, don't laugh...but I actually applied for a job there too. Because they're hiring for a desk staff position. And its a gym. And, well....I ended up being surprisingly well-qualified to work there. (Must be happy, with reception experience, and a love for fitness!) Who knew?

We'll see what happens...
